What is nepTune sonics?
NepTune Sonics is the therapeutic sound service created by Lacey Lewis, a musician, music educator, and music therapist located in Austin, Texas. NepTune sonics offers individual vibrational sound therapy sessions, customized musical compositions that incorporate binaural beats and/or isochronic tones for guided meditation music and other purposes, curated sound baths, and therapeutic music for events such as yoga classes. NepTune Sonics is not confined to Austin and will travel!
What is vibrational sound therapy?
Vibrational sound therapy is the use of metal singing bowls on the body which are gently struck to create vibration in the body. The rhythmic repetition of the strikes combined with the subtle sound and vibration induces relaxation. The vibration also shakes up stagnant energy and helps to release toxins. The individual receiving VST lays on a massage table and remains fully clothed with shoes off. Accommodations can be made for accessibility needs. Currently sessions are held in clients’ homes or other provided spaces (no brick and mortar).
What are binaural beats?
Binaural beats use two different frequencies panned left and right. The difference between the frequencies is what is perceived by the brain. For example, if 100 hz is heard in the right ear and 104 hz is heard in the left, the difference perceived by the brain is 4 hz which is within the delta brainwave range. The delta wave state is what the brain experiences during sleep and times of deep rest. Headphones are required to get the effect of binaural beats. In addition to getting the brain to a certain state, binaural beats induce cross-hemisphere connection which promotes integration of different parts of the brain.
What are isochronic tones?
Isochronic tones are similar to binaural beats in that they are used to get the brain to a certain brainwave state. However, isochronic tones use a rhythmic pulse in a single frequency rather than two different frequencies in the left and right ears. In this way, isochronic tones can be enjoyed in an individual or group setting without the need for headphones.
You keep talking about brainwave states. What are they?
There are five types of brainwaves that the brain experiences at any given time. Brainwaves are measured in Hertz (hz) which measures cycles per second.
Gamma = 30-80 hz - associated with heightened focus & problem- solving, as well as anxiety in the upper range.
Beta = 13-30 hz - associated with alertness & active thinking.
Alpha = 8-13 hz - associated with relaxation, daydreaming, & light sleep.
Theta = 4-8 hz - associated with creativity, meditation, and sleep.
Delta = 4-0.5 hz - associated with unconsciousness and deep sleep.
